Achieving a flat stomach is a goal many of us have set for ourselves at one point or another. It’s a difficult task, however, one that can be complicated by loose skin left behind after major weight loss or past pregnancy. If you’ve tried everything you can in terms of exercising and eating a healthy diet, it can be discouraging to still have excess fat on your stomach.
An abdominoplasty procedure, or a tummy tuck, can help with this. Through this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed to make the entire abdomen area look slimmer. For those who are only concerned with their lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck may be preferable.
Don’t let stubborn skin and fat hold you back from having the stomach you’ve always wanted. Schedule a tummy tuck in NEPA with Dr. Bruno today.
The Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and a Mini Tummy Tuck
An abdominoplasty procedure, AKA a tummy tuck, is for patients looking to flatten their entire abdomen. During this short 2-3 hour procedure, a surgeon makes incisions in the area between your hipbones. Through these incisions, the surgeon can remove excess skin and fat all along the abdominal area. The surgeon will also contour and tighten muscle and connective tissue in the area using permanent sutures.
A mini-abdominoplasty, AKA a mini tummy tuck, is for patients who are looking to focus specifically on the part of the body just below the belly button, a common problem area for excess skin and fat. The procedure is less invasive than a full tummy tuck, with fewer and much smaller incisions, although the process is much the same otherwise.
How Long Does it Take to Recover from Tummy Tuck Surgery?
After undergoing abdominoplasty surgery patients are usually able to return home the same day. Small drainage tubes may need to be inserted under the skin for the first few days of your recovery. Though you will experience soreness and bruising at first, it’s important to stand and walk early on to prevent the development of blood clots.
In 3-4 weeks, soreness and bruising should subside, after which you may need to wear a compression garment. By week 6, most patients are able to return to their previous level of daily activity without restrictions. Once fully healed, you will notice a clear improvement in appearance with a smoother, flatter stomach more proportionate to your figure and weight.
