What Is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is an injectable dermal filler consisting of hyaluronic acid that adds volume to your skin while decreasing lines and wrinkles. Your body actually produces the soft, gel-like hyaluronic acid on its own. The acid is found mainly in your skin, eyes, and the tissues around your joints.
Our skin gets less elastic and vibrant as we age. When skin is dry and less flexible, it forms lines and wrinkles. For many people, these wrinkles represent signs of aging, whether the person is actually considered “old” or not.
Enter Juvederm®, a smooth, pliable gel that supplements the hyaluronic acid already in the skin by holding in more water where it is injected into the body. What Are Juvederm® Injections in NEPA Like?
People usually receive Juvederm® injections in their face to correct nasolabial folds, the lines from the nose to the mouth corners, and any other wrinkles or dullness in the cheeks, mouth area, and lips.
However, Dr. Bruno will consult with you beforehand to review what you hope to achieve with the procedure and what he can do to meet your needs. Dr. Bruno will also advise you on how to prepare for your Juvederm® injection. You may be asked to stop taking certain medications or to stop smoking in the lead-up to your procedure.
Once you are fully prepared for your Juvederm® injection, the good news is that the process is minimally invasive and does not require much from you. Dr. Bruno will inject the Juvederm® into your cheeks, around your mouth or nose, or in the lips. Juvederm® products contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that will reduce or eliminate any pain or discomfort associated with the injection.
Cosmetic surgeons usually massage the areas of skin where you got the injections so the Juvederm® product disperses evenly throughout the area. Your procedure should be completed within 15 minutes to an hour.
In the days after your injection, you may experience some common side effects that include discomfort and tenderness in the injection sites. During this time, you should avoid alcohol and vigorous exercises. Most side effects disappear after a few weeks.
However, the effects of your Juvederm® injection should be visible almost immediately! You’ll notice plumper lips, fuller skin, and fewer wrinkles, depending on what your goals were.
It should be noted that Juvederm® injections do not last permanently. You may need additional injections anywhere from six months to a year after your first injection. Dr. Bruno will review all of this with you when you consult with him.
