A flat and well-toned stomach is something most of us would like to have, but achieving it is often easier said than done. Excess fat around the midsection tends to be very resistant to exercise and dietary changes.

Worse yet, weight loss, pregnancy, or surgery can leave behind loose and sagging skin. For many, this leads to lowered self-esteem and poor body image. You may not feel comfortable wearing certain clothes and it could even make staying active more difficult.

If you have excess fat or skin around your stomach that stubbornly refuses to leave, don’t fret. Dr. Anthony Bruno is proud to offer abdominoplasty surgery in NEPA. More popularly known as a “tummy tuck,” abdominoplasty improves the contours of your midsection, creating a slimmer, flatter abdominal appearance that you won’t feel shy about showing off.

If exercise and diet aren’t working, don’t be discouraged. Bruno Plastic Surgery is here to help!

Why You Should Consider Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty surgery is a short 2-3 hour procedure that removes excess fat and skin. For many patients, it also serves to restore weakened or separated muscles. This helps mold the abdominal profile, creating smoother contours and a more toned look.

For more dramatic results, a tummy tuck can be paired with other cosmetic procedures. Here at Bruno Plastic Surgery, we provide not only abdominoplasty but also liposuction services, thigh lift surgery, and more. Dr. Bruno is happy to meet with you to discuss the best ways to achieve your cosmetic goals.

Get Tighter, Firmer Abs

Abdominal muscles are more pliable than you’d think. Pregnancy and weight gain can cause these muscles to stretch. After losing weight, the muscles may remain loose and detached, but a tummy tuck surgeon can pull those muscles tight again, producing tighter, firmer abs.

No More Loose Skin

Similar to their effects on ab muscles, pregnancy, weight gain, and weight loss can cause the skin covering your midsection to stretch and sag. This can lead to chafing, rashes, and self-esteem issues. During abdominoplasty surgery, Dr. Bruno can trim this excess skin away. The result is a smoother, flatter, slimmer midsection.

Reduce Stretch Marks

If you have unsightly stretch marks that affect your self-confidence, Dr. Bruno may be able to remove or reduce them during your tummy tuck surgery in NEPA. If the stretch marks are in areas that have excess skin, abdominoplasty trimming could help eliminate them.

What Are Some Different Types of Tummy Tucks?

No two bodies are the same. We all accumulate fat in different ways, and we all have different experiences that can result in alterations to our figures.

Fortunately, tummy tuck surgery is an extremely versatile procedure. Are you focused specifically on a certain part of your midsection, such as the upper or lower abdomen? Do you need help strengthening your torso? If so, Dr. Bruno can help you determine what type of tummy tuck is best for you.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck is the most common type of abdominoplasty. It involves tummy tuck surgeons making incisions between your hip bones, along the bikini line area. Through these incisions, Dr. Bruno will remove excess skin and fat, then pull any slack abdominal skin tight to increase firmness. The process usually requires a slight repositioning of the navel.

Mini Tummy Tuck

In addition to full tummy tucks, Dr. Bruno also offers mini tummy tuck surgery. This is a quicker, less invasive in-offer procedure that specifically addresses loose skin and minor excess fat in the lower midsection, below the belly button. It does not involve repositioning the navel.

Reverse Tummy Tuck

While full tummy tucks and mini tummy tucks can be used to address issues in the mid and lower abdomen, a reverse tummy tuck targets the upper midsection just below the bra line. This can help enhance the effects of mastopexy (breastlift surgery). It does not involve repositioning the navel.

Modified Tummy Tuck

A modified tummy tuck is very similar to a mini tummy tuck, with a special focus on the middle abdominal area. The procedure requires a slightly longer incision, but allows for the removal of more excess skin below the belly button. It does not involve repositioning the navel.

Recovering from a Tummy Tuck Surgery

Abdominoplasty surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means that, in most cases, you’ll be able to go home the same day your surgery is performed. This allows you to recover comfortably with only a minor interruption to your daily routine.

As noted by the American Society of Plastic Surgery, tummy tucks are generally permanent. However, patients who expect to gain or lose weight in the future (or who might become pregnant) should consider postponing their abdominoplasty. Maintaining a consistent weight is the best way of maximizing the results of your tummy tuck.

Immediate Post-Op

Following your surgery, you will likely be able to return home the same day. Your abdomen will be wrapped with bandages and a compression garment. Dr. Bruno may prescribe you medication to alleviate pain and relax the muscles. Drain tubes may also be installed to relieve fluid build-up

1 Week Post-Op

Patients should rest as much as possible. After one week, you can resume work and light activities, but should avoid exercise, heavy lifting, or other strenuous activities. If you have drain tubes, Dr. Bruno may remove these now or recommend keeping them in for another week.

2-3 Weeks Post-Op

After two weeks of rest, you can begin to gradually increase your activity level, though it’s best to keep things light. Additionally, Dr. Bruno may recommend lymphatic massages to help improve the healing process.

4-6 Weeks Post-Op

At this point, you should be able to return to your normal routine, including physical activity and exercise. Dr. Bruno will meet with you to help determine if you are recovered enough and to provide specific instructions.
